Family Visiting the Zoo

Cameron Park Zoo

Waco, TX

About

In the middle of the Texas city triangle of Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio is the city of Waco. With over a population of 100,00 people, I don't think you can consider this a small city but it definitely has the charm of a small Texas town yet with big city attractions. Waco was put on the map when a huge tornado ripped through the city and killed 114 people. Yet more recently, has gained fame due to a popular HDTV show called "Fixer Upper", where it sees a couple take older run down houses and revamps it for new homeowners. The hosts of the show bought a pair of old silos and turned it into a market containing different kinds of stores and food. Because of this, the city has experienced a significant increase in tourists that flock to the town every year.

Even though this has been the biggest reason for the increase in tourism, Waco is not without its other attractions. One such attraction is the Cameron Park Zoo. The zoo sits on around 52 acres of land that borders the Brazos River and plays host to a large number of different animals. The Cameron Park Zoo is more than just an animal attraction though, it’s also educational, with programs for students from early childhood through graduate school. The zoo holds frequent seminars that focus on international research and plays a integral part in wildlife conservation by caring about endangered species while returning others back into their natural habitats once ready. If you are planning a visit to Waco or even live here, come check out the Cameron Park Zoo, a treasure in a small town full of them.
